Istituto Marangoni Taxi Fabric Workshop – Here’s what happened

The long awaiting Taxi Fabric 2018 workshop was held on 18th July 2018. Istituto Marangoni and the Taxi Fabric team were looking for 20 stellar creators who would take a design sprint and make magic on 2 “kaali-peeli” cabs. Indiefolio Network was only stoked to come onboard and support this great initiative as the Community Partners.

What is Taxi Fabric workshop?

The ubiquitous black and yellow cabs are Mumbai heritage. In the current world of online cabs, riding a “kaali-peeli” often seems a drab affair. The Taxi Fabric team sought to change this by redesigning the inner decor of the cabs. Through the workshop, a cohort of the best creative minds works on redesigning the interior of a taxi, so that every ride becomes a cherished memory of anyone who rides it hereafter.

From over 300 applications, the Taxi fabric team and Istituto Marangoni selected 20 designers to be part of Taxi Fabric Workshop 2018.

On the workshop day

On 18th July the workshop was held at Istituto Marangoni Mumbai campus.

The objective of this project was simple, to present designs or illustrations which will be later on crafted on the taxi fabric. The participants were categorized into groups and each group was working on one taxi. A lot of artists came up with brilliant designs depicting Mumbai, the culture here and much more.

Here are what the participants had to say

Sudeep who is an independent designer felt the workshop was great as it has a new canvas to explore for him and he was very pleased with the ending the opportunity for such enthusiastic workshop.

Hindvi Gadhari said that she was pleased with workshop, she applied to participate and luckily was selected to attend it. It was a great learning experience for her she could work with other fashion enthusiasts.

Other artists such as Sameeha said the workshop is great because you end up finding like-minded people and work together with them. It is an amazing experience for them to explore and learn from the best designers.
