This week’s In The Spotlight features Arpit Pandey, a 19 year old CG artist from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He is currently pursuing his BSC from Himgiri Zee University. A self taught artist, he is also an art lover who appreciates art in any form and isn’t afraid to experiment with his own work, be it in two dimensions or three.

I love art. Doesn’t matter if it’s digital art, traditional art, 3d or 2d, animation or music… I simply love art.

How were you introduced to BananaBandy and what do you like the most about it?

Well, one day I just got an invitation in my inbox inviting me to showcase my works on an online platform with top artists from all over India.

It’s really great to see that BananaBandy is creating an Indian creative society for Indian artists who would have otherwise remained unnoticed.

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment, I’m working on personal interior-exterior project for my portfolio.

Where do gather the inspiration for your works?

I basically gather the inspiration from my favourite artists. Luc Begin, Mohamed Abdelfatah, Grant Warwick, Hossein Diba and Vicky Seauta have all influenced me.

Finding an emotional connection with your audience is a very important ability to posses.

What is your preferred medium and why?

Well, I love both 2d and 3d animation as I love to paint as well as create 3d characters and models. My preferred medium while painting is Wacom Intuos tablet and Adobe Photoshop and my preferred medium in 3d is basically Autodesk Maya and v-ray.

Do you have a favourite artist? If yes, what draws you that person’s work?

My favourite artist is John Lasseter  (Director of Toy Story). His passion for work is the most important aspect about him that keep me motivated.

I read in his biography that during the making of first Toy Story he stopped going home, he used to work on his computer then sleep under the desk and eat whatever his collegues brought for him. He is the one, talented and super passionate artist who probably is behind most of the success of Pixar Studios.

What are you doing when you’re not creating?

Well, when I’m not creating something then I may be learning new skills or seeking inspiration. The key to continuously create awesome work is to stay motivated with sharp skills in your sleeves.

What (other) hobbies do you have?

My hobby is to use the Stumbleupon website and learn great new things every day.
