Get Inspired by Tolga Girgin’s exquisite calligraphy
Calligraphy is the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush. Since man has been able to write, he has been obsessed with making his words more beautiful. Although calligraphy is an ancient art form, it will remain relevant for as long as humans continue to communicate with written language. The 3D calligraphy artwork by Tolga Girgin is an excellent example of how this ancient art continues to evolve even now.
Turkey-based electrical engineer and graphic designer Tolga Girgin puts a unique twist on the art of calligraphy with his beautifully scripted letters that appear three-dimensional. Many of his creations may look like they were crafted from strips of paper that were cut and folded to pop off the page, but the words are all hand-drawn illusions that rely on carefully rendered shadows and flat forms viewed from exact perspectives.
Girgin’s strong technical skills result in curling words that have an amazing depth of field. Some of the letters seem to actually weave in and out of the page and viewers might feel the urge to reach out and touch what appear to be thin strips of paper. Girgin’s images were created using Pilot parallel pens, brush pens, and pencils on blanks sheets of paper.
