Tell us about your inception and your journey to date.

Arshad: I’m an ordinary guy from Mumbai – born and raised here. I remember my school days when the images and artwork in my textbooks attracted me rather than actual studies. With time my inclination towards art only became steeper. I wanted to pursue a career in this field. So I decided to pursue an art degree from “Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art”. After graduation I worked in Ad Agencies where I honed my skills. Once I was experienced enough and had worked on numerous projects I decided to start “Wallcano” as a Founder & Director, later Piyush Tiwari joined me, and now we are a 6-year-old company. And we are proud to say that our wall art can be seen in several major companies whether it is a fashion brand like super dry, quicksilver 55 diesel or e-commerce heavyweights like Flipkart, Myntra, Vista print or FMCGs like Tata, Mondelez’s, we have bagged it all.

What are you working on at the moment?

Currently we are working on a very ambitious project for a big giant company. In this project, we are just not restricted to walls and space design but we are designing their complete brand identity.

Could you tell us about the most fun project that you’ll have done?

The most fun project that we have done till date is the Flipkart head office in Bangalore of area more than 2 lac sq.ft. It was crazy. There was a time crunch and we had only 45 days to complete. Getting in our team of 50 Wallcanians, we completed the project in a month’s time. Post that we bagged three more projects from them.

So, what’s the future roadmap for the Wallcano?

Earlier clients used to think that wall art means just a wall painted frames or say wall graphics. However, we have given an altogether different meaning to it. We have done art with different materials whether it is sunboard, MDF, metals, chalk, papers, thread, nail, wood and clay 3D art etc. our core specialization is in wall art & installations, wall murals, Graffiti, Space Branding, Environmental graphics. Our future roadmap is simple and straight – To become a world’s premier wall art company whose art people aspire to possess.

If you’ll could redecorate one wall in the world? Which wall would this be and what would you’ll do with it?

Instead of wall I will prefer painting the roofs of the slums of the entire Dharavi. Therefore, when you have a hawk view you might find a delightful picture. Just imagine you are flying in a plane and spot Dharavi in altogether different avatar. Similarly, for other cities.

What’s your ‘that one client’ experience and what did you learn from it?

Always take written brief from clients. You have no clue when their requirements change. One more incidence happened with us, there is one top e-commerce lingerie company who asked us to do their entire space design, everything was finalized but nothing was on paper, you could say we just trusted their words, we shared the concepts and the final presentation and they loved it. Now it’s been more than 7-8 months and they are not answering the calls nor replying to the mails. As a result, you could say we are cheated and our work, energy, money everything went in vain. Therefore, what we learn is that we should always be professional in our approach. Get the proposal signed, get the advance and then share stuffs.

If I were to randomly walk into your office on Friday at 7pm, what would I see?

Loud music, people rushing to complete the work so that they can check out and our pet roaming around.
