Artist Anshuman Kashyap Interviewed by BananaBandy

Hey guys!

We’re super proud and extremely happy to present to you the first ever ‘In The Spotlight‘. This is going to be a recurring series of interviews with the top artists at BananaBandy who have made an impact with both the community as well as the Spotlight Jury with their works. We have asked our artists a few simple questions about their life, their art and their creative process. We hope that their answers inspire you, enlighten you or at least put a smile on your face!

We present our first interviewee; born and brought up in Assam, Anshuman Kashyap is a 23 year old Concept Artist for Broadcast2world in Delhi. He loves dogs, taking pictures and travelling. Always wanting to become an artist, Anshuman started out by acting in theatre for a while before he found his calling.

One thing that I have learnt from being an artist is that the more you share, the more you gain. Giving back is the best thing one can do.

You do not know what you can or cannot accomplish unless you try.

We can always do better than what we are doing today.

  1. How were you introduced to BananaBandy and what do you like the most about it?

I was introduced to BananaBandy by Kavan Antani. He contacted me through another website and thus, I came to know about this awesome community.

What I like about BananaBandy the most is the friendly nature with which you’ll have communicated with me. You people have kept me boosted and inspired me to deliver more. Thank You for that.

  1. What are you working on at the moment?

Right now, I am working on personal concepts. But mostly, I have remained inclined towards Daily Spitpaints. It is a Facebook group, where you get various random topics that you have to complete in 30 minutes.

  1. Where do you gather the inspiration for your works?

Other professionals, friends And mostly I guess it is the creative groups and communities which I have followed and joined all over the internet. There are very talented artists out there. It inspires me to work harder and become better when I see their work.

  1. What is your preferred medium and why?

I prefer using the digital medium. This is because I don’t have much of a traditional background in art. I started with digital. I feel if you work digitally, you have a lot of freedom to mould your work at any stage but with traditional you have no margin for error. Though I must admit, traditional artists are really hardcore and I really appreciate their efforts and abilities.

  1. Do you have a favourite artist? If yes, what draws you that person’s work?

There are many but if I have to name one, Feng Zhu is the one person I would say I have a learned from the most. His Youtube Channel FZDSCHOOL has numerous tutorials on almost everything about concept art.

Each time I watch an episode from his channel, I learn something new. One thing that I have learnt from being an artist is that the more you share, the more you gain. Giving back is the best thing one can do.

Other great artists that inspire me are Goro Fujita, Pascal Campion and Scott Robertson.

Man & Dog. Goro Fujita inspired style by Anshuman Kashyap on BananaBandy
Man & Dog. This is a Goro Fujita inspired style. Somewhere on a planet similar to ours. They have dogs too and even there, the dogs are just as loyal as they are here. This was the idea I had while making this. I love dogs.~September 2014.

  1. Have you ever stepped out of your comfort zone and tried out a new genre of art? How did that turn out?

Yes, I have stepped out of the box quite a few times and I was really happy with results. I was like “Oh! I did this!!??”

You do not know what you can or cannot accomplish unless you try.

  1. What are you doing when you’re not creating?

Whenever I am free from work I love to play games on my PC. Sometimes I sit down with my guitar and play too.

  1. What (other) hobbies do you have?

Apart from the two I mentioned above, I love shooting pictures and I like traveling. I do not own a DSLR, so whenever I am out on a trip, I borrow my friend’s camera.

  1. What are your goals for the future, in terms of both work and life?

I would love to work in one of the top gaming companies in the world as a Concept Artist/Visual Development Artist. Life has ups and downs and thus it will flow accordingly.

  1. Do you have any tips for the budding artists in our community?

Ummm… frankly I do not feel I have achieved that level of expertise to advise the many creative talents in this community. Many of them are as talented than I am if not more.

All I would say is we can always do better than what we are doing today. India has a lot of potential, we need to bring it out in front of the world and let everyone know what we can do as a collective force. BananaBandy is doing something very awesome regarding this matter. Kudos, Team BananaBandy.
