This Design Agency is powered by the creative efforts of one man, Prasad Bhat.
Graphicurry is an Art store and Design studio based out of Bengaluru. Graphicurry was founded in the year 2010 by founder and one man creative force, Prasad Bhat as a sole proprietorship.
Prasad Bhat specializes in hand-drawn digital caricatures and has been featured in the Indian Express, Deccan Herald, Deccan Chronicles, Student Magazine and Creative Gaga magazine as one of the most promising illustrators from India. He has been showcased in online forums such as YourStory, BlueGape and several others as an artist with a unique style and uncommon appeal.
There’s already enough misery in this world. Let’s bring a smile on every face.
Tell us about your inception and your journey to date.
I suppose I always had the artistic flair in me. Although I am an Engineering graduate with decent scores, I just never could picture myself in an IT job. This notation became reality, when I decided to start caricaturing some of my friends (who were also local celebrities in their own right) for fun. Turning point was when someone came by offering to pay for my creations. And that was an offer I could not refuse!
What are you working on at the moment?
I have brought forward this whole new unique range of work called the Evolution Series which has received global acclaim. Apart from this, I have just started doing some stand-up comedy locally and happen to be enjoying the same as well. I believe I always loved making people smile, hence context switching between caricatures and comedy seems very natural to me. Lots more to be done on this front though!
So, does the ‘Prasad Bhat art style’ have a name and how was it conceived?
Yes, I specialize in Vector Art. I have been doing this for almost 7 years now. This style of illustrative work is quite new and unique to India even now, especially when it comes to creative art such as caricatures. I took the liking to drawing and sketching right from childhood and then forgot all about it during my adult years until I realized that the mouse could replace my pencil and the digital canvas opened up new horizons.
So, what’s the future roadmap for the Graphicurry studio?
Graphicurry has two verticals. One is the Graphicurry Studio that caters to design projects. I have been working with lot of international clientele starting last year on this and this caters to almost all kind of illustrative designing needs. This follows more of service based protocol.
Second vertical is the one close to my heart. It is the Graphicurry Art Store. As part of this, my work is exhibited and sold at online, offline and retail avenues. Just this year, my work won the best collection award at Middle East Film and Comic Convention at Dubai. And I get a lot of personalized caricature projects from all over the world. I find these projects very interesting because I love to study the faces of people from all over the world with absolutely unique expressions and traits!
So future is to go global!
What’s your ‘that one client’ experience and what did you learn from it?
When I started off, I had many ‘that one client’ experiences! Especially since I have always been the sole designer / artiste’ who ran Graphicurry. People tend to not take you seriously when they think you don’t have a team backing you. However, I let my work speak for itself.
Seven years later, I am happy to see that several agencies take my creative inputs over their own in-house designing departments. My perseverance, quality of work and most of all, die-hard habit of giving work on the promised time has earned me several repeat customers over the years.
If I were to randomly walk into your office on Friday at 7pm, what would I see?
You’d find the place locked!
Jokes apart, when there is work my team works through the night. But I like to give them time off when the pressure is manageable.
How do you welcome new hires?
So far, I have only recruited people in office management and customer interaction profiles. I have had a high employee retention so far.
How to ruin a job interview with Graphicurry?
By being close minded. Since our genesis is from an idea out of the box, we will always look for people who are eager to learn, experiment and achieve.
Do you’ll currently have any openings, if yes, where should the interested designers apply?
So far, I have not decided to hire any designers/ illustrators. When I do, I will give them all the creative freedom that they deserve.
