Pune Design Festival (PDF) is all about romancing with innovative and powerful ideas and dancing on the tunes of change-makers. PDF 2018 will be the biggest PDF yet. With small beginnings in 2005, the festival has grown to become the definitive design festival of India. This year there would be more than 3000 participants (600+ at the conference and 2500+ at the expo).
Time technology and pouring of constructive thoughts have transformed this design festival into a giant banyan tree, which now shelters and flourish the passion with purpose. In its 12th year, it has become the most looked for design festival in India. With Lexus, launching its world-renowned “Lexus Design Award” in India at the Pune Design Festival, which received more than 700 entries, it would be a race of purposeful designs to be embraced by veterans of this industry on the evening of 17th February, 2018.
Reasons to explore are more when offerings of art is in galore
6 workshops, a film screening, experienced and idolized speakers and 600+ participants make it the most sought-after design event. Adding to the excitement, there’s Design Expo, launched last year on the sidelines of Pune Design Festival, which will be held at ‘Ishanya’ where the top design schools in India will be participating. It’s a unique opportunity for design aspirants to meet the best design education opportunities under one roof.
To explore more, IndieFolio approached Siddharth Kabra, owner and CEO of Lokus Design Pvt. Ltd. and Monsoonfish. Being a celebrity designer with more than 16 years of industry experience, he shares his views on the theme of the festival and more.
“Designism is the practice and principle of thinking that involves complex optimization between emotion and intelligence, between communication and meaning, between science and art, between what can be and what should be, between body and spirit, between known and unknowable.” He expresses with complete attention. He goes on to expand this idea into a more subjective way which draws the concentration and ears to every minute details he shares.
“Design is the new way of thinking in the imminent machine age where mundane decisions and actions would be taken over by AI and other technologies far superior to humans at understanding and analyzing data and creating accurate extrapolations. The only human faculty that can be put to use in such a scenario is the emotional, intuitive way that a Designist would use to define what, how and why our lives should be.”
Some of the personalities he personally looks forward to listening and interacting with would be, Bunker Roy, Tarek Atrissi, Niels Peter Flint, Usha Varia and Sonal Dabral to name a few. And he doesn’t just stop saying the names, as goes further on explaining his meaningful insights about a potential speaker at Pune Design Festival.
“Pune Design Festival is a platform for designers to exchange ideas and thoughts. We like to see and hear from speakers who are taking the design thought ahead and expanding the boundaries of design in their work. Time and again, through the years, we have seen that designers are making huge impact to the world right from simple products to relevant social change, from communication to transportation, from branding to films, from tangible to intangible, from products to systems and policies, from body to mind, from object to subject. It has been an exciting journey and has met many interesting people throughout. Pune Design Festival is not just open to designers. Anyone who has made an impact or has showcased or extended the design thought is welcome to attend and speak at the Pune Design Festival. The speakers are curated by a close group of people from the Association of Designers of India.” He relaxes with fulfillment.
The 12th Pune Design Festival will seek to explore the Doctrine of Designism through the thoughts and works of varied designists. Indulge in.
