In The Spotlight: Clinto Jagan

Clinto Jagan, an animator with a passion for illustration, belongs to Thrissur, Kerala and is currently working with Morph Digital Solutions, an animation studio in Bangalore. Along with character design and animation he loves to create illustrations. Since childhood, Clinto has sketched his thoughts, ideas as well as any interesting situations that he’s seen in his day to day life. His illustrations are really intricate and have fine, complicated precise details. Here’s what he has to say on his illustrations:

I really like to use fountain pen and paper. Black and white combination is my favorite and I like to draw with small dots and small scribblings which together will complete my illustration. I use acrylic, water colors and micron pens for my drawings.

POWER OF HUMANITY: A search for humanity’s innermost powers.
HUMAN AND NATURE: We can’t separate these two, there has to be a balance.

Currently working on a new digital art design, Clinto has his own unique approach to tackle any project that he’s currently pursuing. First comes the concept, once he has his concept cleared and his idea correct he diverts his attentions towards the story. Getting the story right is a very important aspect. Once that is done, he begins rough sketching the concept and starts bringing his idea to life. Slowly but steadily it comes into being. This is where he starts adding colour and stylizing the project. Only after all this is the final product obtained.

ESCAPE FROM THE SITUATION: You have a lot of problems in Life. Only you can find a solution ,this is your life.

He believes that The Sistine Chapel ceiling that has been painted by Michelangelo is the zenith of art. The immense patience, dedication and innovation of Michelangelo motivates and inspires him to work harder than ever at his own artwork. In terms on more recent artists, he follows the works of the digital artists Alex Grey and Android Jones.

Clinto’s works were recently exhibited in Spain as part of the ‘Sketchbook’ series. This is a great achievement as it is not very often that an artist gets to see their own work displayed in international galleries. In terms of the future, he looks forward with optimism to a life of travel and interactions with new cultures.

Let’s see how life goes on, I will travel a lot, meet new people, become a part of new cultures.

Clinto Jagan believes that a formal education in art is not at all essential and what matters most at the end of the day is one’s own talent, passion and dedication. No amount of degrees are ever going to better an artist who is good at what he does and is passionate about it.

I don’t have any degree, I worked 4 companies and nobody asked me for any certificates. If you like to work with art then you don’t need to worry about anything.
