IndieFolio Visits the Silica Art Exhibition

Silica Students Display their Artistic Talent at Exhibition

Silica is an institute which provides high quality coaching for young artists to help them in the NID, NIFT, NATA, etc entrance exams. On the 20th of December, they held an exhibition at Nehru Centre, Mumbai to showcase the projects that Silica students from all over the city had created. It was a fantastic display of the young artistic talent.

The exhibition featured projects created by over 600 students of Silica from all over Mumbai. It was an opportunity for the students to exhibit and talk about their work to thousands of visitors. They also saw the work that their peers from across the city had created and interacted with them.  Many institutes had sent their representatives to interact with the students.

All the artists were between fifteen and seventeen years of age. There was a lot of great work to see from these young artists. Here’s a short glimpse of what was on offer at the exhibition:

The projects on display were from various artistic fields as the students tried their hand at all types of artwork to help them decide which field to specialise in. The exhibition hall was crowded with thousands of guests having a look. The students themselves were cheerful and were happy to explain the process behind their artwork to each and every guest.

Rhea Shah, a communication design student at Silica said, “This is an amazing exhibition, it’s inspiring to see what great work my peers from all over the city have created.”

Many students loved the spotlight being put upon them and explaining their artwork to guest after guest only broadened their smiles. It was late in the evening and many of the young artists had started to wrap up their work, however Chandrika Daswani was all smiles as she recounted the entire creative process behind her Benedict Cumberbatch artwork. “I’ve used straw painting techniques at the top and broken CDs at the bottom, its not come out as well as I wish it would but everybody else who’s seen it loves it.” She beamed.

The Silica Exhibition is a great initiative by the institute. It ensures that the talented young artists get the attention that their work deserves while also acclimatizing them to being more open about their work with with others. Also, looking at the awesome work on display, we are sure that the Indian Creative Community is going to remain a force for many years to come. 😀
