Food Photographer of the year 2016

The incredible winners of the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year have been revealed!

India is one of the most food mad countries in the world. Nowhere else in the world can one find the sheer variety of culinary delites that the Indian palette offers us. With smartphones coming in, our love for food has entered the digital world as well with the massive number of food pictures we take on a daily basis. But we can’t all call ourselves food photographers, however much the 107 hearts on my Instagram picture of a Jalebi would beg to differ!

Brit Mark Benham, however, can. Last night, Benham was crowned Food Photographer of the Year 2016 for his picture titled ‘Flour Frenzy’. It’s a playful shot of a baker having a bit of fun while making bread, creating a cloud of flour in the process.

This picture of his was crowned best picture at the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards. Open to professional and amateur, old and young, the Awards celebrate the very best in food photography and film from around the world. There were over 7000 submissions from all over the world which were critiqued by a diverse and experienced panel of judges including David Loftus, Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone, British food critic Jay Rayner and Indian Chief Editor of Better Photography, Krishna Pillai!

The categories covered the full cultural range of the depiction of food in society – there is something for everyone. From styled food for magazines to images of families eating together in celebration of religious festivals, from depictions of the realities of food production to food growing in its natural setting. The Finalists were invited to a magnificent Champagne Taittinger reception at the world-renowned Mall Galleries, London followed by a five-day public exhibition.
